ALP Bristol provides both primary and secondary provision, and places can be booked for students between Yr1 and Yr13. ALP Bristol is run by experienced senior school leaders and teachers who have backgrounds in behaviour management and safeguarding. Our primary unit includes learning in literacy, numeracy, PSHE, LEGO therapy, art, physical education, catering and life skills; helping students to develop the necessary social and emotional skills to be prepared to cope with everyday situations. Our secondary units focus on high quality practical education relating to the construction trades, including bricklaying, painting and decorating, carpentry, joinery, electrical wiring and plumbing in our bespoke workshop. A maximum of 9 students attend daily with a minimum staff to student ratio of 1:3. We support literacy, numeracy and ICT learning using an online platform, with staff helping students work towards qualifications in Functional Skills or GCSE examinations at their home school. We also deliver Workskills, Lifeskills and design sessions in our purpose-built classroom, and our fully equipped kitchen allows students to learn about catering and cook for everyone on site each day, with all meals included in the daily cost. We believe enrichment is vital for our students’ holistic development, so we include regular trips from the unit into the local community and beyond, to construction trade shows and other educational events as well as regular reward trips. Every student receives a ‘BOXALL’ assessment to identify and address any social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is shared with the home school and helps educators engage the student more effectively upon their return to school. We use de-escalation techniques to diffuse any challenging situations and operate under the basic principle of mutual respect. We provide schools with detailed termly progress and attendance reports, we are available to attend/host meetings regarding students and can help schools generate evidence for EHCP and other applications. We have various student pathways available for the students, including 1, 2 or 3 days a week or a bespoke placement on request. We offer a variety of timescale placements on agreement and work to prepare students for their transition back to fulltime mainstream education.
